A BEST OF GOLD IN ARCHITECTURE CATEGORY FOR THE CHAI LES CARMES HAUT-BRION.

Every year the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry celebrates the "Best Of Wine Tourism".

This year, the Les Carmes Haut-Brion wine cellar has been awarded a “Best Of Gold” in the architecture and landscapes category rewarding the dialogue between the ultramodern wine cellar designed by Philippe Starck and its 19th century listed park (surrounded by vineyards in the heart of the Bordeaux metropolis).

Inaugurated in 2016, by Patrice Pichet – owner of the Château and Philippe Starck, the wine cellar of the Les Carmes Haut-Brion Château is a 2000m2 architectural work imagined by Starck and representing a brute metal blade plunged into the ground allowing the mystery of wine to spring out. With no reference of scale, time or culture, this minimal construction is the opposite of constraining and ostentatious human architecture and anchors the cellar within the vineyard. Here, the contribution of nature overcomes the input of man. It is magic encapsulated in a miracle and where the extraordinary wine of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion will be created.

"Wine is magic.
Its elaboration a science.
Our relationship is sentimental.
Its structure is an abstraction.
Its effect is a vertigo.
Its knowledge is a culture.
Its dress is virtual.

Only the language of the immaterial, of mind, can be used to describe wine.
Its home had to be at the very least an evocation, a minimum, an intuition, a reflection. The marvel of Les Carmes Haut-Brion deserved this consistency, I hope we are worthy.”
