First stone laid for the Mama Shelter Lyon , designed by Philippe Starck

  • 09 Sept. 2011
After Paris, the Mama Shelter hotel laid its first stones in Lyon, yesterday.

Mama Shelter will be a place of freedom, of sharing with a bubbling atmosphere.

This original concept, that Starck describes as: " the jeans of the hotel business, following the new social values such as discipline, honesty, intelligence and humor ”, comes from the synergy and family story of SergeTrigano, and his sons Jeremy and Benjamin, Cyril Aouizerate, urbanist and philosopher, and Philippe Starck.

" There are no projects without something very strong behind them; a humanity reason, social reason, or a love reason. A vision. Otherwise no legitimacy exists. We cannot separate Mama Shelter from its genius, simple application of a vision and a story. Human history, a meeting, affinities, a deep friendship, people who love each other. This is the starting point of everything." Ph.S

Royal Monceau: Opening of the SPA “My Blend” by Clarins

  • 09 June 2011
Entirely designed by Philippe Starck, the Royal Monceau’s spa “My Blend” by Clarins opened its doors the 09th of June 2011. The spa will undoubtedly be the place of unique well being and luxury. Contemporary but also timeless, the SPA will take place on an area of over 1500 m2:

“A spa is above all a feminine place and for it I wanted to investigate the architectural possibilities of the feminine unconscious. The woman is in a system of fluid where the purely male signs of strength, like aggressiveness do not exist. I wanted an unlimited white universe, without horizontality nor verticality” Ph. S.

Le Royal Eclaireur at the Royal Monceau

  • 12 May 2011
Philippe Starck and Armand Hadida opened Le Royal Monceau's concept store, Le Royal Eclaireur, the 12th of May, 2011:

« The Royal Eclaireur - Raffles Paris has nothing to do with architecture or decoration, it is an exploration. It’s an exploration of what the French spirit is, of what it should be, and what it could be. Our qualities, our flaws, this poetry, this romanticism, this reflection, this critical spirit taken to an even higher level, which either kills or confirms. It’s the creation of an internal mental space within the physical surroundings and even replacing decoration ; the mental in place of the esthetic, literature in place of style. The creation of a total space, of a life, a memory, of a passage as if its molecules had been set in motion by music, as if the air had become palpable with the scent of parfume, as if a room could be understood by evoking the exquisite soul of one who had lived there, and had left behind memories, gifts, and memoires."». • 08 March 2011
Philippe Starck and Riko exhibit the premier presentation of the Democratic Ecological Architecture with Riko by Starck (D.E.A.R.S.) at the MIPIM 2011, from the 8th to the 11th of March, in Cannes.
The timeless design of D.E.A.R.S is a revolutionary concept due to its simplicity, innovativeness and accomplishes the political work of Philippe Starck of “democratic ecology”.

"I’ve always been in the ‘proving’ mode of thinking: in the industrialization of furniture but also in habitat. Using the system of car manufacturing to make the houses. Democratic Eco Architecture: I'm going to find in the world, the closest industrial quality I want and develop a wide range of prefabricated homes that are going to be environmentally friendly.” Ph. Philippe Starck re-opens the Royal Monceau

  • 18 Oct. 2010
« I never make architecture for architecture; I am not interested in stone, aluminum, glass and concrete.
I am interested in life, which is why a hotel for me is like a movie.
I imagine why people would come, why people would come back. What they will live, what they will feel. This movie is about the cross of many roads. The Royal Monceau is the result of the richness of this sophisticated cocktail and produces peace and energy for everyone who shall cross these roads.
I think we have invented in the Royal Monceau a new concept called Mental Space. It is no more about interior design style and trends. It is more making air in vibration like music, giving to the air spirit like a perfume. The guest rooms are not empty, they are full of a feeling, a spirit, a presence, as if someone invisible is welcoming you.” Ph. S

The Opening of Alhondiga in Bilbao, Cultural, sports and living Center

  • 18 May 2010
Philippe Starck went to Bilbao, Spain, to inaugurate his new architectural project. AlhóndigaBilbao is a leisure, cultural, and wellbeing center directed towards the personal growth. Philippe Starck renovated these 43.000 square meters of surface dedicated to the activities which support the love of knowledge and to the awakening of the cultural sensitivity. The culture, knowledge and pleasure are joined together in an innovative and multidisciplinary space - a point of life to divide, learn and especially, to appreciate with your family and your friends.

“The true subject of Alhondiga, Bilbao, is not to make a sculpture but to glorify life. Each second is different, life is very diverse and rich. Alhondiga is the crystallization of life. In lower part of these three buildings, full and heavy, all the area is free, like a course of miracles. It is the place of the village, the center of life. Today, I do not know any place in the world where there is all at the same time. It is not the easy way which interests me, it is, once more, the richness of life. Alhondiga is the elegance of the minimum, the elegance of the accuracy of a certain form of voluntary poverty. And yet everywhere one looks at, there are things which occur. It is a machine to create energy. » Ph. S

Paradis du Fruit thinks fresh WITH philippe starck

  • July 2009
Philippe Starck takes the artistic direction of the Paradis du Fruit restaurant and revisits it’s flagship’s concept on the avenue Geaorges V.. He composes, with noble materials, a completely unique and timeless place.
“Le Paradis du Fruit,
is all about fruit and people,
Fruits that are big, small, yellow, orange, red…
Vitamins, minerals…
We cannot say enough about fruit, there are too many kinds, so delicious and healthy.
But people.
Without the people of Paradise, fruit would be just fruit.
In Paradise, with fruit, these people are no longer people. They become angels, geniuses, artists.
These unique beings, search, gather, pulp, press, mix, decant, infuse,
With talent, insight and dedication.
Without them, the fruit would be less.
These angels are our messengers of the fruits.
Thank you. So much.” Ph. S

With Philippe Starck, the Paradis du Fruit reinvents its cloud. The new doors of the Paradis open on the avenue George V in Paris, with a menu and new recipes at the image of the place: simply astounding.

STARCK rethinks the mythical EastWest Studios, Los Angeles, USA, 2008

  • 2008
EastWest Studio, the mythical soundware developer, has undergone a renovation by Philippe STARCK.

"When I first saw EastWest studios it was my absolute dream to work on this project because I thought about this famous recording studio's history and its purpose which is to make quality music," Philippe Starck explains. "I listen to music while I'm planning out my designs and I feel that my inspiration comes from the quality of the artist's music, so sound is very important to me in this space. I'm astonished when I visit various studios, whether they are recording or for radio, at how they look. You ask people to be at their best and to dream about things in a rat hole. They're spending 12-plus hours in these small spaces that smell and have practically no light - it's ridiculous. I don't need a lot but I can't work like that. I wanted to make this place very human with big areas and small areas where people can find a place that makes them feel comfortable. There is a lounge where people can meet, a kitchen and restrooms that are all comfortable, hopefully it's my small contribution to some great music in the future."

Since its foundation back in 1961, the studio has hosted such musical royalty as Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, and many more.
