Small stackable monobloc chairs in polypropylene available in four colours: white, yellow, orange, grey. Although produced with highly industrial technology (pressure die-cast iron and galvanized steel), even if suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and despite being intended for many, PIPE proves that design is and must remain a subtle game. A game of details.
Philippe Starck’s “recherche du temps perdu” (d’un certain temps perdu) has for some time led him to rewrite the history of man and form using irony as his main design tool. Having celebrated a number of queens and princesses in light but iconic chairs, today with the MONSEIGNEUR collection Starck pays homage to a male entity: a king, a cardinal, a politician? The result is “male design”, pointed and aggressive but restrained, made of precious woods such as mahogany, dry metals such as polished steel, and especially coverings in button-backed leather.
Moor(e) is a paradigmatic piece serving to define the notion of “contemporary luxury”, a luxury made up of material, technology, comfort, thus possessing all the right stuff to turn it into an icon of the new millennium.
Conceived to crown the armchair of the same name, the “PIP-e” table speaks a very rare language in which simplicity manages to avoid becoming ordinary and dull. The form derives from the repetition of one element: the pipe, which is enriched by the flaring at the join. This project demonstrates that “mass-produced” design does not necessarily have to relinquish a high degree of sophistication.
